1. Regular Program Submissions:
The Florida Philosophical Association invites submissions of papers for its 2025 meeting. Papers in all areas of philosophy are welcome. The FPA seeks especially to broaden the subdisciplines of philosophy represented at its conference in order to truly represent the many kinds of philosophy that Florida philosophers practice. See complete submission instructions below.
2. Graduate Paper Award (GPA) Competition:
Sorry, the deadline for GPA submissions has passed.
The author of the winning paper will receive a monetary award and will be invited to present their paper at a special session at the conference. Only graduate students at Florida colleges are eligible for this award. See complete submission instructions below.
3. Undergraduate Paper Awards (UPA) Competition:
Sorry, the deadline for UPA submissions has passed.
Undergraduate students may submit papers for special award consideration, depending on which of the following awards they are competing for:
• The Gerrit and Edith Schipper Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Philosophy Paper in a Four-Year College or University
• The Outstanding Undergraduate Philosophy Paper in a Two-Year College
Undergraduate papers may be any length, but 15 double-spaced pages (approx 5200 words) is recommended. The authors of the winning papers will receive a monetary award (TBA). Only undergraduate students at Florida colleges are eligible. See complete submission instructions below.
4. Panel Session Proposals:
Sorry, the deadline for panel proposals has passed.
Proposals for special panel sessions are also welcome. To submit a proposal for a panel session, the panel organizer should prepare and submit a panel proposal document with the following components: i) panel title, ii) participants, iii) a panel abstract which constitutes an overview statement of the theme of the panel, and iv) a panel brief by each of the proposed panel members. A panel brief is text that is (or would be the basis of) the panelist's intended presentation. Panel proposals should be submitted directly to the Program Coordinator.
6. Concurrent Sessions
The FPA also welcomes other philosophy organizations with significant Florida membership to arrange concurrent sessions at the annual FPA meeting. Please express interest to the Program Coordinator.
The submission form you will fill out will ask for the following information:
Paper title
Author Information (name(s), affiliation(s), contact email)
Abstract of paper (max 100 words)
Subject category of your paper
Whether paper is to be considered for a student award (and which)
Your paper:
Must be prepared for anonymous review — remove all author- and institution- and status-identifying information. Only one paper submission per person.
Length: The FPA strongly encourages philosophers to present their papers, rather than read them. Nonetheless, papers submitted should closely reflect that presentation ( 30 minutes) and so should be not more than 3500 words (approx. 10 double-spaced pages). Sessions on the regular program are 50 minutes (30 minutes reading time and 20 minutes for discussion).
Submitting: Prepare your materials and submit electronically via this Google Forms link. If you do not have a (free) Google account, you will need to create one to access the submission form.
Please direct any questions regarding the submission process to the Program Coordinator.
